Have you been called an intimidating woman?

I have. ALL the time.

This always blew my mind and I just brushed it off:

How could anyone be intimidated by me, when I’m terrified of literally everything and everyone.

(I know I’ve mentioned general anxiety disorder here before ;))

It used to be nearly a weekly occurrence for me to go to a coffee shop, come home and be like, “Jesse, the baristas were so rude to me, like why are people so rude?!” And he’d essentially be like, “Remember, Love, people find you intimidating.”

This came up with my family recently too… people feeling overshadowed by my directness or my ability to know exactly what I want and what I don’t want.

It’s literally everywhere in my life.

I’m learning to befriend my “intimidating-ness.”

I think of when I was a kiddo and saw the school counselor for my phobias. She suggested I yell, “BOO!” when I walked into a room in order to scare whatever was ‘there’ first… to step into my power.

(That was a major swing and a miss for that circumstance and that counselor, but I’m playing with that now… ) What if I’m always the one yelling, “BOO!” first and I just haven’t realized it.

This week I hosted the inaugural meeting of The Intimidating Women Club.

It sounds so official, but it’s just a handful of badass women in my orbit that I want to be surrounded by… because, I bet they’re “intimidating” too. So we come together and eat a meal and just name the fact that we’re powerful and glow and enjoy one another’s badassery.

When people say we’re intimidating, I’m choosing to believe they actually mean: powerful. strong. courageous. driven. direct. acquainted with my own potential and possibility.

I randomly think of the song W.I.T.C.H. that popped up on my Halloween playlist last year, which stands for “woman in total control of herself.”

WOOF.

WE are powerful.

I hope that if you’ve been told you’re ‘intimidating’ that you’re leaning into your power and surrounding yourself with other ‘intimidating’ women.

I’m with you too.
